HARMONY CHURCH Embroidered Tab 1″ X 3 1/2″ – Fort Benning, GA – Ranger School – Sniper School
Harmony Church was one of two basic training zones located on Fort Benning, Georgia. Young soldiers who served at Harmony Church in the years 1943 to 1989 served in the old wooden structures of World War II. The old wooden barracks were all tore down in 1992 except for the remaining structures not located at the National Infantry Museum.
Harmony Church was, in the 1980s, one of the oldest training areas at Fort Benning, Georgia and was completely comprised of WWII-era wooden barracks. These barracks had, in fact, been designed for temporary use only during WWII, but here we were more than 40 years later, using the same ones. Needless to say, no AC, very primitive plumbing systems that often broke down, and decrepit tile floors that were virtually impossible to keep clean. If you’ve seen the movie “Full Metal Jacket” the barracks are basically of the same type used in that movie.
